ღ | Astute observation! That seems to be the case, doesn't it? I've never settled for anything less than excellence, so I hope you continue to do the same, mighty emperor.
[ contrary to what riddle may be implying, he does not in fact expect kaiser to venture past his front door on new year's day. look, he's a fellow introvert, he Gets It. that being said, ugh, now he has to decide if he wants to watch the sunrise with kaiser or show kaiser how beautiful he looks all made up in his kimono in person. doing both is too inconvenient.
anyway, just leave the planning to him. all kaiser needs to do is acknowledge his existence and accept his new year's gift so riddle can have his Full New Years Experience. easy, right? ]
While wanting to read more is a noble goal, you should focus on quality, not quantity. If the book you're reading is dry and uninteresting, you won't want to make time to read it. Do not speedread!
Perhaps exploring a new genre will motivate you. What sorts of books have you been reading until now?
well, naturally. if i let my standards slip, how am i going to be able to face you knowing that you might (rightfully) beat my ass over it?
[ he is not kidding. anyways, the solution is simple, they should both just stay in! ... except kaiser does recognize the value of hanging out with other people, hence his fake extrovert personality... ]
mostly i read philosophy and psychology... and mostly in german, though i can read in other languages too...
[ suddenly, the reason why it might take kaiser a looong time to read things becomes incredibly clear. it's the material, not his speed. ]
im not against reading in other genres, though, i havent thought about what else might interest me, though. history maybe? biographies? does anything else come to mind...
.....no i dont think there actually are 🫣 guilty by association, sowwy (not sowwy) men!
I'm pleased you know the consequences that await you should I find you slacking off. There is no "might" about it.
[ don't make him a liar or he will freak the fuck out. but riddle also can't imagine kaiser ever coming up short in his eyes, and not just because he's a giant. it just...isn't him. don't ask riddle to describe it or elaborate.
holy fuck. riddle actually has to physically cringe at what kaiser passes off as leisurely reading. ]
That sort of thing is better suited to studying. Those topics in particular are the definition of dry reading. If you're interested in these subjects, I think history and biographical memoirs are a good start. Psychological thrillers may also interest you.
For you, I recommend Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky, No Longer Human by Dazai, and/or The Stranger by Camus. They all have German translations. If you've already read them, we simply *must* discuss them sometime.
[ can't he relax to a treatise on the development of german idealism over the 19th century? it's fascinating stuff, he swears...! ]
that bad? but i do enjoy reading it. dont you think its interesting how people have been pondering how it is that humans tick for hundreds of years? still, i take your point. i havent read much fiction, so maybe i just have to give it a chance. then, i will start with the stranger are those three among your favorite books?
[ no, goddamnit!!! riddle is 99% sure this is reason #827433 why kaiser crashes out every other day. It All Makes Sense. ]
I can appreciate it from an academic standpoint, but truthfully, I don't care how other people think. In the end, I decide what's right, so while I know to mind my manners, ultimately I'll do to things my way.
[ it sounds noble and strong, but this stubborn, hardheaded little rose has found that being true to yourself to a fault often comes with trouble... it only vindicates him though, and everything always works out for him in the end. proof that hard work always triumphs! ]
Anyway, it's good to love learning, but you must give your mind a chance to rest. The only things I was allowed to read, even for so-called leisure, were textbooks and medical dictionaries, so I know all too well that you're missing out.
My favorites? I suppose so. My favorite genres are mystery and horror. I also like old fairytales and mythology. I'm currently making my way through The Book of Yokai.
[ sometimes you have to crash out 1,000 times before you can truly lock in... ]
not at all? that means you must have a strong sense of self, so theres nothing wrong with that
[ see, he can figure that out because of all his crazed casual reading! ]
i give my mind at least eight hours of rest every day, though? [ while... sleeping... ] anyways, its not like reading what i read tires me out... it just takes me a long time. i suppose i watch a movie or a tv show if im not in the mood to ponder, though
old fairytales and mythology sound interesting too, though. i read a lot of references to them and always end up having to look up the stories they come from... seems like the greeks had a lot to say...
That's right. It's what I pride myself most on. I know myself, I know what I want, and I will never compromise my ideals for any reason. Even when everyone is against me, I never back down because in the end, I know I'm the most correct.
So, be sure you always side with me no matter what. Alright?
[ or apparently he'll give some attempted murder a try ❤️ for a moment, riddle thinks back to what he had done during his first year of high school-- the other boy's screaming and pleading as he tried to hold him down by his shirt, the way white-hot fury and sadness and fear consumed his whole body, the coolness of the scissors' handle clutched in his fist... even though a few months have passed, he still doesn't know how he feels about the situation. somehow, he still believes he was in the right.
of course riddle has to wonder if he would ever do the same thing to kaiser if the other man betrayed him the way his peers had. admittedly, he has a difficult time imagining him in place of that student from back then. riddle is certain that if he tried to kill his best friend, if he took riddle seriously at all, he would greet his end with a breath of relief, a dignified countenance. or maybe he's idealizing him again? maybe kaiser would cry and apologize and beg for his life like any other pitiful person who's ever crossed him?
the thought sickens him, and at first riddle is fairly confident he would bring the scissors down if kaiser did such a thing-- but then he realizes that he doesn't actually want to think about this scenario, or his past transgressions for that matter. oopsies!!
so, riddle shakes his head, takes a deep breath, and goes back to pretending to be normal...... ]
Are you talking about sleeping? That hardly counts. Reading is infinitely better for you cognitively than simply watching television, but I hear audiobooks are also a good alternative if you can't find it the will to sit and read.
Aren't they just? They're often so much more complicated than the sanitized version fed to children. The Greeks have many fascinating stories and mythological figures. It's why I struggle with modern mythology-based stories. It really boils my milk when authors misconstrue the entities their characters are based on.
What about you? Do you have a favorite Greek mythological figure? I'm partial to the story of Hades & Persephone myself.
[ and not because he goes to class with irl hades!!! ]
we're just innocent men
